Adetunji Olurin, a multi-skilled soldier and licensed fighter-jet pilot, during the Night of Tribute on Thursday, 23rd September was described and seen as a patriot who lived his life for the unity of the Nigeria sovereignty.

Unveiling the riddle, Major General Gbadewole, the Assistant Commander to Late General Adetunji Olurin in the ECOMOG, while making his tribute addressed the late Brigadier General as Major General Adetunji Olurin.

Major General Gbadewole explained that the Late General Adetunji Olurin left the shore of Nigeria to lead the UN Peace Keeping troop in Liberia as a Major, and not as a Brigadier.

“Late Adetunji Olurin having been serving as Major General in the Nigerian Army went ahead to raise high the country’s Green White Green in Liberia as the Commander.

“True to his nature and commitment, Major General Adetunji Olurin fought the war, and won to liberate Liberia from the rebels.

“He landed in Sierra Leone, and right there, far off from the battle field in Liberia, Major General Adetunji Olurin started commanding the officers at the war-front in Liberia by which the rebels were indefinitely contained. The Major General Adetunji Olurin led ECOMOG liberated Liberia. How he did it remained a puzzle to me as his Assistant Commander.

“Haven done Nigeria great in Liberia, by the time he returned to Nigeria, the powers that be asked him to drop a rank, and become a Brigadier General instead of getting recognitions and honour in addition to his existing rank of Major General. Late Adetunji Olurin was demoted!

“Unfortunately, the US, UK, ECOMOG had recognized and held in high esteem a Major General Adetunji Olurin while Nigeria only had Brigadier General Olurin.

“Not only that”, Major General Gbadewole continued, “the General was confined to his farm in ILARO because they insinuated he has became a threat.
