Visa-on-arrival ban, ors, causes Falconets sleeping in bitting cold

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has disclosed that the U-20 Girls National Team, Falconets, had to sleep on the bitting cold floor of the Instabul airport in Turkey due to the visa-on-arrival ban on Nigeria.

The unlucky girls who were on their way from the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup held in Costa Rica could not have other options than to sleep on the benches and floor of the airport.

NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, in a statement said the Federation had appealed to the Turkish authority for transit visas to enable the players lodge into an hotel in the city but was turned down on the premise that Nigeria had been removed from the list of countries whose citizens were issued visa-on-arrival in Turkey.

Sanusi further stated that in view of the situation, the airline personnel took the team to a sleeping area at the airport and gave them tickets to have meals every five hours, adding that the NFF had made arrangements to receive the team in Abuja before the complications in travel arrangements.

“The players were handed three sets of green jerseys and two sets of white jerseys, several house-wear types and training jerseys. The players opted to wash only their jersey top (no other stuff) because when the first set of body-wear was sent to the laundry at the hotel, it was returned with some FIFA and NFF badges at the front and names at the back peeled by the machine”, Sanusi stated.

However, the Scribe has assured that plans were in top gear to make sure the players arrive sooner.
