One blood donation can save up to three lives – Labour Party Governorship candidate, Kehinde Sogunle, urges residents to volunteer

The Ogun State Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Kehinde Sogunle has urged residents of the state to join the crusade for voluntary blood donation as the world blood donors day is observed worldwide this Tuesday.

According to Kehinde Sogunle the day serves to raise awareness on the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.

Speaking this Tuesday while addressing members of his campaign council in Abeokuta the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate observed that voluntary blood donation guarantees a happier, longer life.

One blood donation can save up to three lives.

“Volunteers usually donate because it feels good to help others, and altruism and volunteering have been linked to positive health outcomes, including a lower risk for depression and greater longevity”.

Mr Kehinde Sogunle also said that Voluntary blood donors, particularly regular donors, are the first line of defence in preventing the transmission of HIV, hepatitis viruses and other bloodborne infections through the route of transfusion

It described the theme of the World Blood Donor Day 2022, “Donating blood is an act of solidarity”. Join the effort and save lives as apt as more lives are daily saved through voluntary blood donation.

He opined that a blood service that gives patients access to safe blood and blood products in sufficient quantity is a key component of an effective health system.
