ASUU Strike: Open Nigeria Group endorses NAUS resolution, set to mediate between ASUU, FG

Open Nigeria Group – a non governmental organization – has perfected plans to start taking a front row as stakeholders at every negotiation table on issues surrounding university education.

A statement duly signed by the Convener, Smart Madu Ajaja, stated that “Open Nigeria” has proudly and boldly endorsed the resolution of the leadership of the National Association of University Students (NAUS) to finally end disruptive strike actions in Nigerian universities.

It further stated that the Group will be taking a front row as stakeholders at every negotiation table on issues surrounding university education.

“But not limited to students and staff welfare, and holding chiefly, the Nigerian Government and or ASUU as the needs be, accountable going forward, for any further breach that would negatively impact their future; the future of university education and the wellbeing and future of Nigeria.

“We strongly condemn all the actions of government that have ridiculed university education in Nigeria, such as inadequate funding for teaching and research, the appointments of misfits with political connections as university Vice chancellors.

“As well as the recruitments of unqualified academically deficient citizens with connections to politicians in power as lecturers, the deplorable welfare packages and slavish conditions of service of university teachers.

“Also, we will not tolerate obnoxious and objectionable admission procedures into Nigerian universities that sacrifices the best for the unprepared to survive and get ahead without merit because of a failed system that has kept the country divided, dysfunctional, rudderless and hopeless”, the statement concluded.
