Ogun 2023: Labour Party excos, TUC leadership synergies for victory

As the 2023 elections draw closer, executive members of Ogun Labour Party on Monday met the leadership of the State’s Trade Union Congress, TUC, as part of move to ensure integration, synergy and victory for the party in the next general election.

Speaking at the meeting held in Abeokuta, the state capital, The Ogun State Labour Party’s Chairman, Pastor Michael Ashade said the purpose of the meeting was to synergise and integrate state’s Trade Union Congress into the folds of the Labour Party in the State.

“This is ample time for the Labour Party and other Labour Unions to create a force that will achieve the yearnings and desires of our people in terms of true development because true governance has been lacking in the state”, he said.

The Labour Party chairman maintained that Labour Party cannot operate without the TUC in his fold.

“With our strength, intellect and synergies combined with large number of people in the Unions, no doubt would ensure good governance that would bring back to paths of glory in all spheres of human endeavors.

Labour Party should be at the forefront of governance, and as a critical stakeholder, there is need to integrate TUC and her member organizations into the party.

We enjoin the leadership of TUC to communicate to their members and to let them know that the answers to their yearnings have come”

Also Speaking an elder statesman, Engr.Akinpelu Sogunle bemoaned the disconnection in governance exemplified by the rot and corrupt leadership being experienced by Nigerians.

“Let Ogun State be the beginning of the turn around. Labour Party and Labour Unions cannot operate in absentia, there is need to be one, let us play our part and our people will begin to trust us more.

When TUC have people in the structure, there will be accountability”.

Sogunle, who is a global economist and nuclear service expert, said the Labour Party is on a rescue mission as hope has been taken away from the people.

“Our people are loosing hope, Then, Our Parents told us that if you go to school, your life would be better. Can we really say that now?

Labour Party with the integration of the labour Unions must endeavor to restore good governance will bring hope, a government that will reflects you and not a government of few, by the few and for the few”.

He also urged the leadership of the TUC to inform its members that the combined integration would be one that will give hope through exemplary leadership, human capacity development, concrete investment that will tackle youths unemployment in the state.

“Since the unions will be part of it, they won’t be any policies that would be inimical to the Unions”, he stated.

Responding, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Akeem Lasisi lamented the parlous treatment being meted to workers in the state by the state government, adding that many of the promises made by the government at its inception have not been fulfilled to the Labour force in Ogun State.

In his remarks, a governship hopeful of the Labour Party, Dr.Kehinde Sogunle said” it is time we give democracy a true meaning, by experience it has not been so.

Sogunle, who was a former Commissioner for Finance in the State, described the socio – economy stance as the country as one that have emasculated the people.

” The System has been satisfying some people, the need for a turn around which the Labour Party will bring prompted this meeting.

” There should be an end to Political system that has not been inclusive, Godfatherism and state capture forselfish interest. They control everything. And lack of continuity of projects has make us not be progressing, what we are witnessing is arrested development”.

The former State Chairman of the Nigeria Conservative Forum, NCF, who also stressed the need to give alternative to the people, narrated the emergency of the Labour Party as third Force.

He added that there are opportunities in the state but the politics being played and the kind government are one that impede development.

He described the labour unions as people oriented organization that the labour Party would be connecting as it through this integration that the interests of the unions would be achieved.

” Through this , We shall be able to conquer the policies that are inimical to labour force, deliver our people from the bondage they have been in all the while and achieve a greater Ogun State that all and sundry would be proud of”.

Other executive members of the Labour Party present at the meeting were the Deputy Chairman,  Mr. Banjoko Kazeem, Ogun Central Senatorial Chairman, Chief Opeolu Ijaola, State Secretary, Mr.Segun Feyishola.
